Health-Economic Value of Transvenous Diaphragm Neurostimulation in Ventilator Weaning

A new peer-reviewed publication in the Journal of Critical Care Medicine examines the health-economic value of AeroPace^® Neurostimulation Therapy in ventilator weaning, drawing on the RESCUE-3 randomized trial and Medicare (MEDPAR) claims data.

Meaningful Episode of Care with AeroPace

• Demonstrated clinical benefit: AeroPace improves rate of weaning success (HR 1.34 in mITT analysis and 1.43 in per protocol analysis).
• Economically beneficial: AeroPace reduces MV days by 2.8 days (mITT) and 3.2 days (per protocol). Modeling projects this to save 2.9 and 3.4 ICU days, respectively and reduces need for LTACH stay, saving mean total episode cost of $24k.
• QALY improvement: Potential lifetime gains of 0.10-0.68 QALYs are consistent with other high-value interventions.
• Validated and robust: Analyses based on national claims data show stable cost savings across ICU lengths of stay and tracheostomy subgroups.
• Cost savings do not take into account device cost or CMS NTAP add-on payment of up to $23,650 per qualified case.
