Emerging evidence suggests that mechanical ventilation (the standard of care) may be one of the primary causes of brain injury in hospital patients. Congratulations to Thiago Bassi, Shaurya Taran, Tim Girard, Chiara Robb, and Ewan Goligher for publishing their research demonstrating the exciting, brain-protective strategies that may help alleviate long-term cognitive disabilities in critically ill patients.
